Xiaomi’s Mix Fold 3 is lighter and cheaper than Galaxy Z Fold5
Samsung
Galaxy Z Fold5 is undoubtedly one of the best folding smartphones of 2023 and
the Chinese contemporaries are catching up with the Korean tech giant, and the
latest one to do so is the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. The third iteration of Xiaomi's
foldable is thinner than Samsung's offering. However, you won't be able to buy
one anytime soon.
Samsung's
latest Z Fold5 has gotten a lot more thinner than its predecessor. However, it
is still not as thin as the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3, which has a thickness of 10.3mm
when folded and when unfolded, it just measures 5.6mm. The Mix Fold 3 weighs
259 grams, which makes it slightly heavier than Samsung's offering.
Just like
Samsung, Xiaomi has also reworked the hinge system to make it lighter and
stronger, which is now rated to last up to 500,000 folds, which is more than
double that of what Samsung and Google claim. The Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 also has a
slightly large 8.03-inch primary folding screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a
peak brightness rating of 1300 nits. Similarly, it also got a slightly large
6.56-inch cover display with a wider aspect ratio when compared to the one on
the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5.
The
Leica-tuned camera combination on the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 consists of a 50 MP
wide-angle lens, 12 MP ultra-wide angle lens, 10 MP regular telephoto lens with
3.2x optical zoom and an additional 10 MP periscope zoom lens with 5x optical
zoom. The device also has a 20 MP selfie camera on the cover display, which can
record up to 1080p videos.
Technically,
the Mix Fold 3 is also powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC as the Galaxy
Z Fold5. However, Xiaomi's offering runs at a slightly lower clock speed,
paired with at least 12 GB of RAM. In terms of software, the Mix Fold 3 ships
with Android 13 with its custom MIUI 14 skin on top.
The
smartphone packs a dual-cell 4,800 mAh battery with support for 67W wired and
50W wireless charging. The base model of the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 with 12 GB RAM
and 256 GB storage is priced at 8,999 Yuan or approx Rs 103,000, which also
makes it a lot cheaper than Samsung's latest foldable. However, unlike the Z
Fold5, which is widely available across the world, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3 is
limited to China.
